Mechel-Coke (part of Mechel Group) hosted a business visit by the chief of Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service (Rosprirodnadzor)’s Urals inter-regional department Roman Tuzhikov, who intended to appraise the plant’s upgrade meant to improve its impact on the environment.

Chelyabinsk, Russia – June 30, 2020 – Mechel PAO (MOEX: MTLR; NYSE: MTL), one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, reports completion of another stage of its production facility's ecological modernization at Chelyabinsk Coke and Chemical Products Plant (Mechel Coke). The plant has revamped its coke battery #8, which will enable it to decrease waste emissions. Investment in the project totaled 218 million rubles.

Mechel Coke OOO (part of Mechel Group) launched its upgraded coke-oven battery #7. The upgrade will enable the plant to reduce waste emissions during coke production. The technical upgrade was part of the cooperation agreement between Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service (Rosprirodnadzor), Chelyabinsk Region’s government and Mechel PAO on ensuring the group’s safe and socially responsible functioning on Chelyabinsk’s territory.

Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK PAO, MOEX: CHMK) and Mechel-Coke OOO (both part of Mechel Group) will spend over 1 billion rubles on environment protection over the next two years. The company’s ecological program was presented at a meeting of the interdepartmental working group tasked with developing a project agreement between the region’s government and Mechel PAO on ecological cooperation.
